After serving the Jacksonville community for more than 40 years, we are not a bit surprised by the outpouring of generosity and support we’ve received in the wake of the corona pandemic. We are, however, grateful.
Businesses, individuals and an entire neighborhood have stepped up to help! Here, we highlight a few of them.
Del Webb Ponte Vedra
Dale and Jan Jirousek wanted to help us feed the influx of hungry families we are now seeing due to skyrocketing unemployment. They didn’t stop there, however; they rallied their entire community to help! Members of the Del Well Ponte Vedra community have delivered carloads of food and made numerous monetary donations. And now, thanks to the Jirouseks, other communities are joining in as well!
Simply Healthcare Plans
It takes more than food to serve pantry clients! Simply Healthcare has always been a wonderful friend, supporter and resource to LSS and its clients, and last week, they donated 1,000 wonderful canvas bags so that clients can easily transport their food. These sturdy, reusable bags are a blessing to LSS staff distributing pound after pound of food, and to clients too–many of whom are transporting food on a city bus!
The Banking Sector
National banks were incredibly proactive and stepped up early to provide support to nonprofits like LSS who are continuing to provide essential services in the community. Bank of America, TIAA Bank, the TD Charitable Foundation and Wells Fargo made their granting processes easier, less restrictive and more responsive to immediate needs. They also increased their funding turnaround so that agencies can get funding when they need it most.
These are just a few of those stepping up to help during this difficult time. We are so grateful for every pound of food, every dollar and every prayer!
