Local media outlets continue to highlight the hard work and successes of our refugee students.
Junior Wude, a refugee from Uganda and a brand new graduate of Englewood High School, was featured June 8 by Action News Jacksonville. (Junior is pictured above right with Action News’ Erica Bennett.) Fellow Englewood student Hewan Gabriel will be featured by News4Jax next week as Jacksonville celebrates World Refugee Day–stay tuned for her story!
LSS is grateful to all of our community partners who are helping to tell the stories of these young people who have faced and overcome barriers that would be unimaginable to most of us.
Our #WeUnderstandJax campaign is over halfway to its goal of raising $50,000 before June 30. Thank you to everyone who has donated and campaigned on our behalf, and please help us keep the momentum going! Please share the stories of Junior, Hewan and the other remarkable students who have been highlighted recently. They are the reason we are fighting to save this program–they and countless students like them who have yet to arrive in our country, but who will need the same support once they do.
Please visit http://www.weunderstandjax.com to see how the campaign is progressing, and please keep helping us to spread the word!
