Food Distribution Assistance: Help the LSS Food Pantry during operating hours to help pack bags of food and pantry staples to be distributed, ensuring nutritious food reaches individuals and families in need.

Workshops: Do you have an area of expertise, skill, or hobby you want to share? We are looking for individuals/groups to offer free workshops for our Youth Mentoring Program and Refugee clients. Staff Supervised. This can be a one-time volunteer opportunity.​
​
Front Desk: You will be answering the phone, accepting in-kind donations, and welcoming clients as they enter the building. Staff supervised. ​
Level 2 Background Screening Required
​LSS will pay for your background screening!​

Youth Mentoring: Get matched to a mentee (youth between the ages of 15-24). Our Youth Mentors meet with mentees to work toward reaching personal, vocational, or academic goal(s). Share your life experience and insight. This opportunity asks for a 1-hour weekly or 2-hour bimonthly commitment over 6 months. We pay for a background check!
Be a Volunteer Driver: We need friendly faces to help newcomers to Jacksonville get to appointments around town. You need a current driver’s license, reliable vehicle, up-to-date car insurance. We pay for a background check!
Women's Empowerment Group Volunteer: The SHE (Support, Heal, Empower) Women’s Empowerment Group provides tools, resources, and a safe space for women to achieve independence and confidence. Through mentoring, workshops, and support networks, we help participants set and achieve goals, build self-esteem, and create brighter futures. Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles, including: hosting life skills workshops providing one-on-one mentoring or coaching, supporting event planning and group activities, and more! We pay for a background check!

​Any volunteer positions at LSS with direct client interaction is subject to the screening requirements of Florida Statute 435. As such, state regulations require those volunteers to undergo a Level II Fingerprint Background check. Our HR staff will work with to collect the appropriate paperwork and help you obtain the background check at no cost to you.
A Note on Volunteering

Volunteer To Help Feed Your Neighbors

Our food pantry distributes food five days per week, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. We need help during these hours to help clients sign in and to assist them to their cars with food.

Pantry volunteers must be at least 15 years old.
​

Currently, the Food Pantry does not have a program in place for volunteers wishing to satisfy court-mandated community service hours for the Department of Corrections.
