LSS CEO on First Coast Connect

LSS’ president and CEO Mary Strickland appeared on WJCT’s First Coast Connect radio program today, talking with host Melissa Ross about the agency’s new direction (Mary’s segment begins at 40:55). She appeared alongside Luke Layow, new president and CEO of Feeding Northeast Florida, to demonstrate that LSS has moved on from several years of conflict between the agencies as responsibility for food bank services in the region transferred from LSS’s Second Harvest to the new food bank, Feeding Northeast Florida. Strickland stressed that LSS is committed to continuing to serve the community through its other long-standing programs such as refugee services and AIDS Care and Education, and to partnering with FNEFL through the LSS food pantry and other hunger-relief programs.

The Times-Union’s Beth Cravey also hit on these points in her blog today, quoting Strickland as saying, “We still operate targeted hunger relief programs…However, we’re dedicating the majority of our energies to other ways of helping people in need in our community.”
