Results are in! We're happy to share that over 300 jars of peanut butter and jelly were collected during the Peanut Butter & Jelly Food drive, a collaborative effort from the Jacksonville Humane Society and Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida.
Running from April 2nd, National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day, through April 5th, the drive yielded a total of 307 jars peanut butter (229 jars) and jelly (78 jars).
Aiming to help people and pets, the collaborative food drive also saw the inaugural visits of the JHS mobile vet clinic to the LSS campus, which enhanced the scope of support offered by both organizations.
The food donations go to support the LSS Food Pantry and the animals under the care of JHS.
This collaboration reflects the ongoing partnership between JHS and LSS, which was further solidified in December 2023 when the JHS pet food bank relocated to the LSS Food Pantry to streamline access to vital services.
JHS continues its mission of providing shelter, medical care, and adoption services to animals in need, ensuring they find loving homes, while Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida extends crucial assistance to individuals and families facing various challenges, including emergency aid, counseling, and refugee resettlement.
Hunger Still Exists; Here's How You Can Help
While the PB&J food drive has ended, it's never too late to help feed families facing food insecurity.
The LSS Food Pantry, opening Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.. to noon, is seeing an average of at least 100 households each market day.
There are several ways you can contribute to sustaining the LSS mission of helping those in need.
Volunteering your time at the pantry, organizing your own food drive, or offering a monetary donation to support its operations are all impactful ways to make a difference in the lives of others.
