Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida and the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) have partnered to expand the JHS Pet Food Bank initiative in order to to support both pets and families in need in our community.
Effective December 7, 2023 the JHS Pet Food Bank will now be hosted at the LSS Food Pantry, located at 4615 Philips Hwy. Pet food will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis, five days a week, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. during LSS Food Pantry hours of operation. Visitors can receive food from the LSS food pantry up to once a month.
"By partnering with Jacksonville Humane Society, we're not just providing food for pets,” LSS President & CEO, Bill Brim, said. “We're preserving the bonds that keep families whole. Together, we're ensuring that no one has to face the heartbreaking decision of parting ways with their beloved companions due to financial hardships."
“We are excited to partner with Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida to expand our existing Pet Food Bank. Access to pet food and supplies is essential in keeping pets and families together, and this partnership with LSS will give folks more opportunities to utilize this service,” Denise Deisler, JHS CEO, said. “We are grateful for the continued support from LSS and their dedication to helping pets and people who love them in our community.”
The LSS Food Pantry serves individuals and families five days a week, and has been serving at least 2,000 households per month for the past few months. JHS cares for nearly 9,000 dogs and cats each year and offers community programs, such as pet adoption, low-cost veterinary care, public training classes and more.
