LSS and Kids Hope Alliance Launch Free Medical Assistant & Phlebotomy Tech Certification Program

Updated: Jun 14

JUNE 14TH UPDATE: Due to the overwhelming response, we have temporarily paused accepting new applications for the Steps 2 Success Medical Training Program. Please visit this webpage for updates on when we may reopen applications.

Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida (LSS) is introducing a tuition-free medical training certification program to equip young and prime-age adults with certifications as medical assistants or phlebotomy technicians, thanks to funding from Kids Hope Alliance. Applications are open until June 30th, with classes beginning in August.

Space is limited, with a maximum of 60 students over the year able to participate. The program pairs LSS’s proven Steps 2 Success (S2S) services with courses that prepare participants for healthcare certifications. These courses are provided by NyWes Healthcare Association, a leading provider of healthcare certification programs.

Participants can choose a 12-week medical assistant course or an 8-week phlebotomy tech course. The program includes personalized workforce and financial coaching to help them succeed.

To qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years old, commit to attending two evening classes per week at the S2S office (1601 Kings Road, Jacksonville, FL 32209), and take the certification exam. Lyft rides will be available upon request.

S2S, a Financial Opportunity Center offered by LSS, combines one-on-one financial counseling, career assistance, and benefits enrollment.

To apply for the certification program, visit LSSJAX.ORG/S2S to complete the interest form.
