Lutheran Social Services Announces FEED THE FUTURE Campaign to fight Summer Childhood Hunger

Jacksonville, Florida - Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida (LSSNEFL), a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing food insecurity in Jacksonville, is launching a fundraising campaign addressing increased community hunger during the summer months. "Feed the Future: A Summer Without Hunger," aims to raise $10,000 to ensure children in our community have access to nutritious meals when school is out.

During the school year, many children rely on free or reduced-price meals provided by their schools. However, when summer break arrives, these children often face increased food insecurity and hunger. Donations made during the campaign will support the LSS Food Pantry, open five days per week to any local household in need.

Historically, the pantry sees increased traffic over the summer. But LSSNEFL President and CEO Bill Brim says this expected increase comes on top of numbers that are already 30 percent higher than last year.

"Our pantry serves more than 100 families most days–sometimes 150 or even more,” Brim said. “At the same time, food donations are down 25% from last year. We believe that no child should have to go hungry, and no parent should have to skip meals to feed their children. Through our 'Feed the Future’ campaign, we are committed to ensuring that families in our community have access to the nutrition they need to thrive."

LSSNEFL invites community members, local businesses and philanthropic organizations to join hands in making a lasting impact on childhood hunger. Contributions to the campaign can be made through our website at lssjax.org/feedthefuture. Donors can choose to make one-time donations or set up recurring monthly donations to support ongoing efforts throughout the summer.
